Chesterfield Democratic Committee's Ice Cream Social

Having grown up in Chesterfield County I can attest to the rarity of more than 5 Democrats gathered at any public place, but Thursday night at the committee's first ever summer Ice Cream Social I about fell over. There weren't just dozens of Democrats, there were over 150 Democrats in Woodlake! Now for those of you fortunate enough to grow up in places like Norfolk or Alexandria that may not sound like many, but to those of us who have fought the good fight in a Republican county - this seemed like the gates of heaven had opened.

I must give props to the men and women of the Chesterfield County Democratic Committee for doing such an outstanding job! Evelyn and Rick you guys are to be applauded. Not only were there Democrats under that pavillion last night, there were candidates too!

Yes, statewide candidates were in Chesterfield County - the bastion of conservative politics and they were rewarded with wild applause and homemade chocolate chip cookies (provided by our very own state party treasurer, Abbi Easter). Leslie Byrne and Chap Petersen attended the overflowing event - they even stood on picnic tables to talk to voters.

Now, I've been around this state a great deal in my capacity as Executive Director, but never have I seen 168 Democrats brave the rain in Chesterfield County. After seeing the enthusiasm last night I am more convinced that Virginia is going Blue!

Thank you, thank you, thank you - for all you do as Democrats! I know that together we will celebrate our victory in November.

- Lindsey.

Thanks, Lindsey, for being there--along with staff from the Kerry campaign, Leslie Byrne, Chap Petersen, and the Chesterfield people!

You're right--it was TREMENDOUS! And that was only the first of four similar events we want to have.

In Chesterfield over 8500 voters came out for the Democratic Presidential primary. In order to build a stronger grass roots organization, we decided to have ice cream socials/meet and greets and invite the primary voters.

For this week's event we invited fewer than 1/4 of the list! So when we move to other areas of the county and can invite the other 6700 voters, . . . watch out, George Bush!!
